what is the difference between those 2 axles ???

i used to have in my xj this axle showing above , it was an open differential
with only 1 wheel running


and before 1 week i changed it to one showing below , this one is a bit smaller then the one i had before , but its a locked differential running with both wheels with the same power

are they both 35 dana ??? or what exactly ??

 

The axle with the open diff was a Chrysler 8.25, and the axle with the limited slip diff is a Dana 35.

No problem. Why did you switch axles? Was the 8.25 busted?

 

Is it really a locking diff or a limited slip diff?.......there is a difference.

 

No , 8:25 is fine but off road specialy on sand and dunning it sucks, cause only 1 wheel is doing the work !
I bought the 35 dana from a used Japanese xj
All Asia spec xj's comes with a 35 Dana

I just switched from a Dana 35 to a Chrysler 8.25, main reason is because it's stronger. If you put a lunchbox locker in that 8.25, it'll perform better than the 35 with limited slip. I wouldn't get rid of that 8.25 just yet if I were you.

 

The 8.25 is still with me at home
The lunchbox locker is a bit expensive , I think it's about 500 $
I bought the 35 Dana for around 350$

 

Right on. Makes sense to me. At least you have a backup axle setup now, that's always nice.

How do u know the D35 is something other than an "open" diff?????

 

I assume he checked it on a lift by making sure both tires spin in the same direction. He'll probably chime in and let us know.
