I am wanting to swap axles from my 86 XJ to my 90 XJ. The rear axle looks pretty straight forward.
I'm concerned about the front diff r&r. Springs cause the most concern for me.
If I jack it up high enough,it should take the tension off the springs so the springs can't just shoot out...correct?
What about reinstall? How is that accomplished?

yup, put the jack stands under the body and use a jack to lower the front axle. just make sure the jackstands are high enough to lower the axle down.
the axle will lower enough when you unbolt the track bar and lower control arms for the coils to fall right out.
then to reinstall, start by bolting up the lower control arms and insert the coils into the coil buckets and tighten the retainers to hold the coils in place and jack it up so the coils are around the bumpstops and bolt the uppers.
then the rest is simple.

where's it say that? you're thinking of another thread where he wants to do the locker swap in the rear diff. this one is for the front diff.
but who knows, i've been wrong before.

He does have a lift but it can be done either way fairly easy with spring comp or not.
Hey chris i have spring compressors if you need to use them when your ready. If you could get both over to my house we could do it in a day with air tools.
