Default What year AW4 transmissions are compatible with my 98?

I'm in the process of converting my 1998 Jeep Cherokee 2 door to 4WD.

I need to locate a AW4 transmission and transfer case that came from a 4x4 Cherokee. I'm wondering what year of AW4 transmissions will be compatible with my 98?

Also, will I need a new computer since I'm installing a 4x4 transmission? I'm guessing no but just figured I'd ask...

98 was the first year that both input and output speed sensors were installed in the tranny, and the reluctor changed from a 2 finger to a 4 finger.

This is important because your TCU will have to match the tranny in order for it to shift properly.

Your best option is to find a donor 98 and grab the tranny, TCU, and the harness from it.

I have a 98 I`m scrapping. If you put some info on your user page we might be able to point you in the right direction.

So essentially the donor would have to be a 98-01, just not a 97 or below, correct?

Also, I filled out my profile and everything so feel free to point me in the right direction =]

Screw it... I'm just going to buy an entire wrecked 98+ Jeep Cherokee to make the swap easier.
