Hello,

Picked up a HP D30 and 8.25 from a 97 Cherokee to swap into my 01 that has a LP D30 and D35. Looks like the new to me D30 has the small u-joints, can these be changed to the larger u-joints with just replacing the shafts from 96 and older cherokees? Also these axles look like theyve been sitting for a while, havent cracked the covers yet but im assuming the carriers, gears and bearings will have some surface rust since the fluids have been drained. What is the best way to the the rust cleared up? I have not messed with gears either except for pulling c-clip shafts out. Should I take em somewhere to get the carrier and pinion bearings replaced or is it simply pull, change and reassemble if the same shims and such are used?
