Default Axle Question

I just scored HUGE! I just got 5 free Michelin X XL 9 R 16s (36inch tire) and I need to decide which will be the best way to install them on my chopped stock cherokee. I know i need new axles and I can weld, a littlebit, what combo will be best/easiest/cheapest for me to run these tires??

Have no idea, what do you have now. Chopped stock Cherokee doesn't tell anyone anything about what you have for transmission, axles, gears, lift, or wheels.
More information is always better.

hold the phone.

Do you drive your jeep on the highway? If so, sell those tires.
They are a military grade high capacity tire. VERY stiff and they have a very low heat rating (low speed).

Just my $0.02

i have a 96 xj with no lift, yet. 4L with ax15 and np231 and dana 30/35 setup.

I am qualified to drive the vehicle that they are used on veh is gov'd at 98kph. I am military and they were dumpster bound because they didn't make the milspec cut anymore. I never exceed 100kph on the 31s that i have now anyways.

I can't just sell them or give them away, its a liability thing, I will destroy them when I am done with them. I know that if I use my dana 30/35 everything will have to be in 4 lo when wheeling, and i have been told to stayoff the skinny pedal. I will be lifting the vehicle 6 inchs to accomdate the wheels.

With the Dana 35 rear axle I wouldn't be trying to run 36 inch tall tires.
Upgrade to a D/44 or C/8.25 29 spline axle. JMO.

Yes absolutely i will be upgrading the d35. I was wondering about the d30 in the front, it is 96 and I have the giant style u joints, I won't be doing too much high torque wheeling, just mud trail riding, and the tires are only 9 inches wide, but they are Fing heavy, I would say about 60-75 lbs before mounted on a rim. However I might have landed a cryco 8.25 with 3.07 gears that will match the front d30.

1. is the d30 strong enough?

2. Is the cryco 8.25 strong enough?

3. Can I stack 2 lunghd style 4 inch bastard packs together to create an 8 inch lift bastard pack? Will it eventually sag?

4. Will a front xj driveshaft from an 88 with ba10/5,np231 work as a rear cv shaft with hack n tap?

1) as long as you don't put a locker in the front the d30 should be ok.
2) should be fine with or without a locker. Is it a 29 or 27 spline?
3) 4" pack + 4" pack does not = 8" pack. You'll have to mess around with the configuration, but I very much doubt you'll be able to get 8". You want to stick to 6 leaves MAX. I'd shoot for a 6" pack + 2" shackle.
4) not for that lift height. You will need a custom DS for that length.

okay so i guess i will start out with a 6 inch kit from rough country, a cryco 8.25 from the wrecking yard, and a whole lot more cutting.

after all that if i am still not satisfied (which jeepers never are) then i will lock the rear end and maybe regear to 4.56 gears afterwards.

any thoughts on using a mini spool???
