Default Aw4 tranny

I have a 97 jeep xj I recently put a rough country lift on with a sye kit I pulled the motor and tranny while doing this I was gonna have tranny rebuilt but didn't have the money and the car I was driving blew up was slipping minorly put Lucas tranny slip fix in and adjusted kickdown cable and seemed to be better so I've been driving the jeep for about a month now and the tranny seems like it doesn't wanna accelerate when I go forward its really slow and doesn't wanna move when I step on the gas it moves just fine in reverse but doesn't move barely in drive or 3 or 2 or whatever it has new fluid it it but I never changed the tranny filter an when I had the motor and tranny out I pulled them apart and took the torque converter off could I have done something to the torque converter or is the filter causing problems idk what to do and have little to no money as I just moved into my first apartment

its a bit hard to figure out your post,

but, the filter is only a screen, so if its working in reverse, which needs highest pressure, that probably isnt an issue, the screen rarely is with aw4

if you are saying it was slipping and you put Lucas anti slip in it, that doesnt sound very promising

how many miles on trans ?...how does the fluid look color wise ?

not exactly sure on the fluid just Walmart brand atf I've adjusted the kick down cable and had to adjust the shift cable to get it to shift into park

I very much doubt the trans need rebuilt as the AW4 is pretty robust. Does it work correctly if you put the shift in (1-2)? That is - shifting it manually It sounds like perhaps it's trying to start off in 4th gear, which is usually an electrical problem. Often its wiring or a failing solenoid which can be replace by dropping the pan.

Plenty of threads on testing the solenoid resistance - for example https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f2/95-...ission-263837/.

Unbolt your exhaust with the 2 bolts at the bottom of the exhaust manifold, then go for a loud drive. Leave the exhaust dangling by the bolts so it doesn't drag on stuff. If it's better, replace the catalytic converter. From what I understand out of your initial post, it sounds like an acceleration issue, not a shifting issue.

Not sure how critical it plays in here for the grand picture...but I've always seen/heard that it's a big no-no to just run ATF in our transmissions... It's gotta be the DEX II or MERC... unless you've got the 2.5L.
