Default AW4 shifting weird after 31's

i put 31's on my 98 and i noticed that now it seems like it bogs down when it shifts out of first and it also will shift in and out of OD around 45 mph which sucks cause thats the speed limit where i live. any advise what i should do or check? i dont know much about transmissions either.

Mine does the OD shift around 45 too, it's annoying but usually if you nurse it right once it's in you can keep it in for a while unless you have a steep hill. Or do like me - speed. Just kidding, that's a bad idea.

You need 4.10 gears, this will solve your problem.

I'm sure all of the research you found stated it will work, but it will cause it to be a little more of a turd. Just get used to it, I don't see what the big deal is.

If the shifting in and out of OD at 45> is bothering you, just run it in 3rd. Then shift to D(OD) when you are going to be traveling faster than 45.

I recently went to 31s and my 95 does not have any issues- still plenty of Go in the pedal to the right... Not sure about OD and 45MPH, I live out in the country and don't go that slow very much. :-)

Mine's still on stock tires and does that bounce in and out of OD at 45mph. Never did figure out why. I've just got to the point if that's the speed limit I don't put it into OD.. Kinda wondering how it will be when I put the 31's on..

You can do what I did and run a switch to lock the torque converter in OD whenever you want. Here is the link to the write up...Tj Locking The TC
