ok this has been going on a few times

I just recently changed a bunch of parts including my TPS(adjusted)

some days the truck will drive perfectly... but as an example say I go to get gas and shut the truck down, fill up, start the truck and go to drive away it will stay in first gear only.. sometimes it does it and sometimes it doesnt? my tps is adjusted accordingly but it only happened after I changed it.

what should i look at first?

unplug the TCU and shift it by hand?

anything else?

all my ground wires are new too.

oh yeah its an 88 4L limited

Here is your clue.

If you did NOT have this symptom before changing the TPS, you need to replace the TPS. It is not at all unusual to get a faulty one out of the box.

Gotta look at "cause and effect" here. The new TPS is likely bad.

ok update, i let the truck cool down... then came back out started it and drove perfectly fine so i parked back in my driveway waited ten minutes then did the same thing again but it wouldnt shift and stayed in first gear.

so it seems like the cold start it shifts fine but a hot start it will shift bad.
