start tracing wires. It sounds like you have a wire that got chewed on and is shorting out.

You're talking about the fuse on the harness right there by the TCU? Just lately I've been having plenty of trouble with mice! They seem to chew whatever is handy out of boardem . They hit my CCV tube on the valve cover, then sent out a team to annihilate the dust cap on my AC port. You might check those wires there to the TCU. I think they use them to get to the maps in the glove box, which may be the command center.

Cruiser would be (one) that knows those pretty well. I would just guess it's the one with the fuse.

This link here has a couple pics. Also the link in post #24 leads to more stuff on what's going on there...https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f2/dec...105739/index2/

Btw, in my signature there (V),is a link to some great stuff Cruiser wrote for us Renix owners.

Hey wingman, OK...you ARE talking about an 89. There is a tcu fuse up under the glove compartment. That's an aw4 auto....I think it should work somewhat with no elecrrics at all. (not sure). Fluid is up and OK and the shifter feels OK? I don't understand the ign lock business for the shifter whatsoever.

This link has some petty good diagrams, don't make my mistake and get messed looking at a 2.5>>

The "trans" fuse in the fusebox is only for the Power/Comfort switch and the reverse lights. I'll bet your Power/Comfort switch is shorted out inside. Remove it and unplug it. Then install a new fuse and see what happens.
