SO I need a straight forward to the point answer here....
Im on a tight buget and when I say tight its more congested than the 405 freeway with a 10 car pile up during rush hour....any way back to the point I have an opertunity at a deal to get an aussie locker for a D35(which i have) running 32's am I gonna kill it? And when it dies what exactly fails?

Come man, haven't we beat this subject to death already?

A D35 is not worth spending money on....PERIOD. It's not a question of IF it will break, it's a question of WHEN.

Save your hard earned money and ditch the D35 in favor of a 29 spline 8.25 or D44, or an 8.8.

i would do it. it all depends on how you drive. i have an aussie in my d35 running 35" tires and have had no problems at all. we have the same d35 axle also as because mine is a 1989. there were 2 different types of the d35.

JMHO If you want a locker and have a Dana 35 and can get one at a decent price...GO FOR IT... I am in the same position you and many other jeepers are in "We Do Not Have Unlimited Funds" so get what you can for what you got, just don't beat it to death and it should hold up...Tj

This is a fairly bold statement. My girlfriend has a 1998 TJ with 120K on the original D35. It hasn't had any issues...PERIOD. The D35 can handle some abuse, not tons, but light duty off roading isn't gonna kill it. Even with 32's. Anything bigger than true 33's and I'd be a little concerned.

Exactly. Right on the nose. I guarantee I'll snap that D44, 8.8, or 8.25 in a heartbeat if you let me go nuts on your rig. It all depends on how you drive, to a certain extent, anyway.

you must have the non c clip like my 89

i was welded in the rear on 31s and was doin some full throttle assaults at a water fall type thing and made it up and the rear end is still tickin, im not saying itll do that every time but they arent exactly tooth picks like people say they are and you can make it work if your on a budget

You have a chance to make it last if you weld the tubes to the housing and truss it, but generally speaking FrankZ is right.

I'm lucky. I've got an ARB in mine.

Seen 'em break on the trail and just driving down the highway. It's your money to spend.

33s on an 89 wrangler with stock gears and mine detonated at 55 on the highway, locked up tight, destroyed the driveshaft and all. The next week, all stock internals and was back on the road, advantage to nobody wanting to keep the d35s, factory ls with ring, pinion, install kit cost me 75$

for the same price of getting a locker FOR the d35.. you could put that $250 into getting a stronger axle..

If your really that broke, then you get the choice of:

Locked D35 = Ticking time bomb
Open 8.8/D44/8.25 = Reliability..

when your far from home.. what's more important?
