What I've been looking at is maybe a relatively cheap head unit (kenwood?) and probably put 2 pioneer speakers in the front for now until i save up enough money for added pieces (subs, amps etc.) With the jeep im more mechanic that audio so i have absolutely no idea what im talking about when it comes to this kind of stuff, what are the best specs for a jeep

Your advice is good about specs and most people just run to the brand and dont have a clue what the specs are. And yes speakers are important but it has to start with a good head unit first. You could upgrade all your speakers with a crapy stock or even after market unit and see very little imporvement, or you could leave the stock speakers in and replace with a decent unit and hear a dramatic difference. We have not heard yet what unit he has so he could be looking for a speaker upgrade before a unit upgrade which will leave him still missing what he wants. BTW... that JVC unit you have is fantastic for the price... I would recomend just about anything JVC puts out because it is always under priced for the quality.
I agree with you somewhat but crappy speakers=crappy sound.... If you have old paper cone speakers that are cracked and dry rotted a head unit will not make them sound any better.... Also make sure you hook the wires in the correct + - configuration.....

That's why I used the Pyle 1400 watt, 5 channel amp. So I have 250 watts, running to the four corner speakers. 400 watts running to the sub. That way the Bass doesn't over power the rest, as the volume goes up. The amp., has internal crossovers. (which I leave at full range) Because my head unit, also has internal crossovers. Controllable with the remote, from the drivers seat. And can be quickly changed according to the number of passengers. (People in the back, don't get stuck, only hearing the mid's & Bass.) It does pay to use a real good unit. My other choices at the time, I would of had to use 2- 2channel amps, 1- single channel sub amp. with external crossovers. Which would take up a lot of room.

just get an eclipse head unit, some infinity mids and tweets, and some cerwin vega subs.
i currently run an eclipse head unit that was about 800 bucks new. it is still ahead of the curve on the units you can get around town and its about 5 years old. for speakers i just run stock now but i used to have infinity 12s or rockford 12s. i ran a cerwin vega once but someone stole that badass suckers

Here's an idea for a budget system that will sound good to get in the game so to speak and sound good doing it. Go to wooferstc.com and look at the CDT 5 1/4-6 1/2" components. Look at the Kama set for $99. Then look to Milionbuy.com for a head unit. You can get a Pioneer or Kenwood unit for $100-140 that will have the features you need/desire and don't worry about the pre-out voltage(2 or 4v) as either will do. Then stick with Millionbuy.com for your 2 chan amp for your comps and a mono amp for your sub. Look at the Profile California series not the Baja. The California series are inexpensive but solidly built and do rated power. A 2 chan should run around $79 for the AP600 and around $99 for the AP700M for your sub. Then start looking for the cheapest you can find on a Kicker CVR10 with dual 4ohm voice coils so you can wire it to 2 ohms final load. Should be able to get that for less than $100. Find a 1cf sealed box to put the sub in or build one. You can also look at the S8L5 Kicker Solobaric which will fit in a .5cf box to save room and that will run the same as the CVR10. Shop the net for an amp kit(4ga), some speaker wire(12ga) then do the install yourself or get help from a friend. This will be way better than anything you will get at Wal-Mart and will cost you about 1/3 to have the most basic of installs done at your local stereo shop. This is a good basic budget install that will last a long time and sound good.
Good luck

ive had a look at everything you guys have suggested but as of now ive come around to this setup, before i list it you need the wire harness and the kit so the aftermarket radio fits right?
