Default ASD Relay Clicking Out of Control

As the title says. When I turn the key to the Run position it starts protesting. It won't start either. Swapping relays doesn't do anything. When I leave the ASD unplugged and switch to run it doesn't click so I know it's that one..

I put the fuel pump relay in and it clicked as well. Then I swapped back and the fuel pump relay still works like it's supposed to.

Seems like that circuit is trying to tell me something but I don't speak Aboriginee.

Any clues?

I initially thought it might be the cruise control, which I have the vacuum line disconnected from because it leaks vacuum and I never use it. The harness was stuck so I cut the mother.

Please help me before I do more damage. I'm a noob.

I already did that. That's what I was talkning about when I mentioned the "fuel pump" and "ASD" "swapping".

It doesn't matter which working relay I put in there they all click. It's beyond the relay. The iNet is teaching me the PCM controls it... but why the clicky...

So this problem started after you butchered the cruise control harness?

No, it clicking (and the cruise control is right there with it) is what led me to the cruise control. That's how loud it was clicking.

I read online in other places that the wiring harness in the door can affect it somehow. I pulled out and checked all fuses (nothing there).

THen I put the old relay back in there and turned it to run with the door closed. No clicking.

Then I opened it and tried it. No clicking. Then I pushed it open as far as it would go, no clicking. Then I started it.

I have a feeling this bastard is going to leave me stranded somewhere or start blowing relays... and still leave me stranded somewhere.

Is the airbag light on? Do you have a scanner capable of retrieving airbag codes? Could be something as simple as a corroded connector somewhere.

Actually my guages are always jumping around and the airbag light comes on before they act up, and stays on a few more seconds after they fix themselves. If I turn the lights on or shut them off hard it'll fix it for a few seconds then go right back to no RPM, Speed and the airbag light is on.

Where do these sunsabees ground? I've had it to a much lesser degree since about a year ago when I changed out the heater core (dash removal).

It just recently decided it's time to only work 1 in every 10 seconds since last week though.

It seems to be gone forever... now.

After much looking around on the internet and seeing how replacing PCM's was the popular choice of dealers (which still never fixed it) I have cleaned off my PCM grounds which needed it.

According to gathered input I found across the iNet the PCM closes the circuit on the ground for the ASD relay so it can allow the other relays to function. If the PCM has a problem closing the ground for it (either faulty PCM OR a bad ground... which I actually needed to clean off mine) then it will go in between the phase of almost closing the ground and opening the ground.

IE it'll click until it can't click any more.

For those with the 97 and later XJ 4.0 engine... it's attached to the ignition coil mounting bracket, on the right side of the bracket (as you're looking at the ignition coil from the passenger side of the engine bay).

There's two Black/Tan grounds that come out of the PCM. If you look at the wires close enough after cleaning them off you may see some tan left on there. Those are your PCM grounds.

Steel wire brush the pee out of them, the bolt, and the face of the ignition coil bracket (not sure if you're supposed to do that but I did).

Idle is smoother and I have yet to receive any CEL codes. But you know how that goes.. the second I say I don't have any the next time I crank it I will have 3 immediately.
