Default Anyone have problems with Seafoam?

So I just got my 89 XJ about a week ago and the other day I put a bottle of seafoam in it and filled the tank. About two hours later the jeep idles so low it stalls out. If I give it gas it completely shuts off. The only way it will run is in park and it BARELY runs at best. Any suggestions? Im thinking clogged fuel filter?

Were you having problems that you thought the Seafoam might help, or just adding it because you had heard so many great things about it? If you had any amount of water in the fuel, it might have interacted with that and plugged the fuel filter. Take it off and check, if not, then might have to start trouble shooting it as a different problem.

A FULL bottle? I have only heard of putting 1/3 - 1/2 into the gas. Not sure what that would do to it though.

Read the can and you will see.

Well I changed the filter and it was loaded with rust. I put a new one on and it smoothed out the idle but when I give it gas it still wants to stall. As for adding a hole bottle my buddy is a mechanic and thats what he said to do, but thats no excuse. It was running good except for the occasional high idle when first starting. just trying to do some preventive maintenance. Guess I should have stuck to the rule of thumb...... IF IT AINT BROKE DONT FIX IT!!!!

i put a can in my 1990 and it started to misfire extremely bad as if a spark plug wire came off, its startin to smooth out but you can still feel the miss a lil bit, im going to try replacing the fuel filter cuz i think the sea foam broke all the gunk loose in the gas tank and is pluggin the filter up and injectors possibly

In the morning im going to replace the fuel strainer in the tank. I hope this will help but if its that bad i should probably drain the tank you think.?or should I just ride it out? i hate to waste 10 gallons of fuel but if I have to then I will.

I've never heard anyone saying to pour a whole bottle of seafoam into anything on a vehicle.

For me I put a half of a bottle through the vacuum line and that's it and maybe if I needed an oil change real real soon id put a half or so in the oil.

I Seafoamed mine yesterday,Yeah says to use a third of the can, cant imagine what a whole can would do,I would check my spark plugs for fouling too,it says o2 sensor safe but Im sure thats assuming you used 1/3 a can so maybe check that too

the bottle says it treats up to 25 gallons of fuel i believe and i put 3/4 of it in and it started missin, its no user error i think its cuz we have alot of gunk, rust ect in our fuel system and like i said its gradually gotten better ive gone through half a tank and the miss is almost gone

I think your fine with a whole bottle in the tank, I wouldn't bother with your fuel strainer unless you put a pressure gauge on the fuel rail while its stumbling, and verified a drop in pressure.

I'd check you IAC valve, clean it, and look for a vaccuum leak around the TB before I played with the gas tank.. I changed a "faulty" fuel pump in a dakota, big job... Big waste of time. Fuel rail delaminated inside and rusted clogging the filters in the injectors.

IAC= Idle Air Control. Its right next to the search button. Or the google bar.

Its on the TB and controls the idle speed. It has a vaccuum orfice that gets plugged sometimes. TB cleaner works good.
