Default Another rear main issue..

OK, I searched the rear main seal install. Printed out the write up and tore into my 97. Finished the install on Thursday night, drove the jeep to work on Friday. No oil leak. Drove it Saturday, no oil leak. Drove it quite a bit today, start, stop etc. No oil leak. Had my Dad with me and was taking him home, got on the jeep pretty hard, wound it up to 75 and was cruising. Dropped him off and on the way back home, smoke rolling out the back again as it did before. Pretty pissed to say the least. Oil under the jeep from front to back.. As it was before, if you get on it hard, it wants to leak. Keep your foot out of it, it seems to be fine. I was also very careful on the install of the new seal and oil pan gasket. Oil is dripping/running out of the transmission bell housing, doesn't look as if it's running down the oil pan..I heard about a vent hose that could/can get stopped up causing oil to blow out. Anyone heard of this? If so, what and where is the hose? I checked the valve cover gasket on the back of the motor and it's dry in that area..It's becoming a pain real quick and I am at the set it on fire and watch it burn stage..Any help would be greatly appreciated..Thanks.

are you sure it is oil and not dirty tranny fluid? check your valve cover seal.

It is oil for sure. No tranny leak (yet). Valve cover is good, no leaks there. Yet!

just FYI, the only part of the CCV system that can (usually) clog and cause this is elbow fitting on the rear of the valve cover. I would replace/clean that fitting, as well as buy a new set of tubes from the dealership since the rubber fittings are probably shot as well and the tubes may be clogged.

You can usually tell if it's the CCV. Pull the tube off the valve cover and put your finger over it while engine is running. You should feel a slight vacuum. If not, something is clogged up. If you feel the vacuum I would check compression. Could be excessive blow by.

the valve cover gasket on my daughter's 01 leaked enough oil at the rear of the head that i changed the rear main by mistake. valve cover gasket finally fixed it.
