True, the diesel engine oil has more zinc than the newer gas engine oil. The zinc is being taken out because it is said to ruin the cat converters on todays vehicles. I've heard Royal Purple has more zinc in it, but I could not verify that.

Diesel oil is too thick, stick with a normal XXW30 or XXW40, the fourty will have a higher zinc content than xxw20/xxw30. Our flat tappet cams like the xxw40 the most.

VR1 is high in zinc, but it is low in cleaning agents. its intended as a racing oil. Racing engines don't normally see extended usage like a regular vehicle motor. So it would depend on what your usage is, but a short OCI would be recommended.
And for the record, it was the phosphorous that the EPA objected to.

I just tried running Rotella 15w-40 for the first time, when I opened the gallon jug it surprised me how DARK that stuff is, looks almost like used oil. I'm broke right now, I bought the Rotella 'cuz Wallyworld has it on sale for $11/gallon in my area (KS), I've always run Castrol GTX with a quart of Lucas and it's always seemed to work well for me, so far the Rotella seems to be working fine, just thought I'd share my experience running "diesel" oil.

Wouldn't worry about lower levels of zinc in motor oil. Zinc has been replaced with other additives that do just as good. Besides, spring pressures are so low in the 4.0, it's a non-issue.
