Well this solves the mystery of "why the hell does my AC compressor keep kicking on when I have the heater on"

On 97+ it's trivial to install a switch that interrupts the A/C request. You can have bilev heat this way, too.

monitoring this thread. my 93 xj sport blows heat, but it's not very hot. not to hijack but if you guys know of any links offhand to threads or websites that will help me diagnose this problem i've only just started looking into it. thanks in advance

Either your heater core is clogged or your blend door isn't fully opening to the heat side.

One of the things on my list of items to sort out on my XJ is to find out why the AC compressor kicks on all the time even when I have the heat on. Well I keep it on defrost most of the time. So that explains everything.
