Default Alternator upgrade problem

Ok, I am in the process of upgrading my alt. and before I take it apart I wanted to check the wiring first. This way I am not just stuck. So, I look at mine and it has a plug for the two small wires and the 98 grand Cher. 5.2 alt which I bought brand new about an hour ago has a spot for two wires but not a plug. Which wire goes where? I know the batt wire is the one that is by itself but what do I do with the ones I have. Cut off the connector then what?
Thanks
Frankie

Oh I have an 89 xj

"plug for the two small wires" = external voltage regulator
"spot for two wires but not a plug" = internal voltage regulator

Are you sure b/c right on this alt. it says external voltage reg. and is has a spot for two wires.

My 89 has the plug and it also should have an external voltage regulator

I'm pretty sure you need one that is INTERNALLY regulated to match what you have....take your old one to the parts store and they can match it up.

your alt is a internally regulated one, in the 90s, i think 91 or 95 they changed to a pcm regulated model so in other words the 5.2 upgrade does not work for us early model guys, from what i understand, only route you can go is take it to a alt starter shop and have them upwind it

What about an external regulator? Does anyone know how to wire it up like that?

I figured it out. If anyone with a renix wants to do the upgrade there alternator with the V8 136amp alternator. Checkout what I did here. Me and the guys at cherokeetech.com have solved this problem. We renix guys have an internal regulator.
Check it out here. Cherokeetech.com While there sign up its free and let them know I sent you.
