Question Alarm beeping on set and unset

Hi all. I bought a 97 Cherokee Laredo diesel in November. Very pleased with it but the alarm has started to beep once loudly when setting and twice when unsetting. This isn't the horn but a higher pitched sound. It is similar to my Transit when a door is not closed properly. I wouldnt mind but I leave home at 5am every day and the racket wakes up my missus so I'm getting it in the ear ! I've had to park it out on the road. I've searched the forum but can't find reference to it but apologies if there is already a thread. Any help in stopping the beep would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

On my 2000 cherokee to change this I need to be near the jeep, hold the lock button on the key fob for ~5-10 seconds then press and release the unlock button (while keeping the lock button held down). I just tried this and it took several trys for it to work. Good luck, I'm sure your neighbors will be happy if you get this solved.

Default Still beeping

Many thanks for that suggestion. I tried and tried but it doesnt work for my motor. I've done all the other reseting things I've seen in other threads ie locking and unlocking the rear door and the passenger door all to no avail. . . Thanks again for responding.

I had read where some key fobs change that setting by holding the lock button the pressing the panic button. Hopefully someone can will have the correct info for you.

The info I gave you earlier was from the owners manual, did you check yours?

Default No Panic button

I did look in the operating manual that came with the Jeep but I've had another look and there isn't anything in there about it. Our remote fobs must be different to the ones you have across the pond as mine doesn't have a panic button just lock and unlock buttons. I tried putting new batteries in the remote in case it made a difference but no joy.
I cant thank you enough for trying to help me find a cure.

That's a really nice link freegdr and I will bookmark it, thank you. However for vehicle security the article there only speaks about the 'sentry key immobilizer' and nothing about programing alarms and/or remotes (unless I missed it).

davejohn's jeep may have the Mopar EVS anti theft system.
for non power locks look here: (page 11-12 shows the remote)

I have the Power locks. Great links so thanks for those. I'm going to have a look at the module tomorrow afternoon when I finish work see if its got a chirp on/off switch. I'll dig deeper in those files if it hasn't but I'm sure I'll get an answer. I'll let you all know how it goes. My thanks go to all you great Jeep afficianados out there !

be sure to power down the module before changing dip switches. disconnect the neg battery cable or pull the fuses near the module.

All sorted now guys. I changed the 1st dip switch to turn the chirps off completely as per the installation instructions for the unit. I'm very grateful for the help and I'll be logging in regularly to see if I can learn more about these great motors and who knows I may be able to return the favour and assist someone else one day. Thanks again. DJ
