Just finished installing the fuel pump and my lean code is now gone. I never had a vacuum leak on the manifold or any of my lines. Never had that P0171 code until just after I installed the Airtex pump in May now that I think of it.
I have deduced that (based off of my AFR guage at WOT) that the airtex wasn't maintaining proper fuel pressure, and at WOT it raised the AFR from 15 - 19 as the RPM increased beyond 2500. The next week my pump died. (last week)
So even if your airtex IS working... don't count yourself lucky. Running lean can cause engine damage. I now have what sounds like possibly piston slap, and have had it for over a month now. Never buying another engine/fuel/transmission management part from autozone or advance again.
Another reason not to use Airtex.

As if we need another one.
Airtex fuel pumps are offered by many parts stores because they offer a low price point.
As we all learn as we age, price is only ONE thing to consider. More important than price is reliability.
That is why I never install nor will I recommend Airtex. Their reliability history is bottom of the barrel IMHO.
