Air in ABS pump: Will brakes still be spongy if I disable ABS?
2000 Grand Cherokee.
Daughter borrowed it for winter. Autozone Akebono front calipers leaked at piston seal. Daughter ignored brake warning dash light, and ?ran the master dry.
Gravity bleeding all 4 brakes right now in my garage. Seems I need to take it to dealer to bleed the ABS...
What about disabling ABS by pulling fuse, relay, or sensor? If there is air in the ABS pump, and the ABS is disabled, will the brake pedal still be spongy after gravity bleed at all 4 wheels?
Thanks,
JohnEP

You will still get a spongy pedal if you disable the ABS. Try pumping the pedal when bleeding the brakes. Put a hose on the bleeder and the other end in a jar with brake fluid, pump the pedal gently and don't push it all the way to the floor. Pump the pedal about ten times per corner and keep an eye on the fluid in the master cylinder. Give it a shot.

In my experience, the real experts hang out in the XJ section. Pretty sure my 2000 Grand Cherokee brake system is the same as the 2000-2001 XJ... Please humor my breech in etiquette.
