Default AHHHH!! Need advise? Transfer Case!?!?

Got a problem that I thought was simply the u-joints!!!

So it squeaks when I back up and when I drive forward slowly, and the squeaks speed up as the jeep goes faster, did not think much of it, until I was driving today and out of nowhere I started getting really bad vibes when I would let off the gas, I would get up to 55 then coast down a hill and it was making all sorts of grinding and vibe noises. Called up a buddy and I took it to his shop we put it on the lift, and put it in neutral and the u-joints seemed fine, then we put it in gear on the lift and the noise was coming from the transfer case!! I guess does this sound like the t-case is toast!? if so would it be worth rebuilding it, its a np-231, and if anyone has a t-case laying around I am interested
