honestly, once you already have one or two, and everyone knows you're into these, that's usually when a deal will fall into your lap.

that's how i got my 92 (or 93, can't remember). i picked it up with about 80k miles (150kms) for 100 bux. all because the nss went for a chit on him.
got it to the shop, and had it running within 5 mins.
it's now my save gas jeep. i have a 5.5 RE lift kicking around that i just might throw in it.
when i was cleaning it up, i found 12 bux in change (we have 1 and 2 dollar coins here). so in reality, i got it for 88 bux. with a half tank of gas to boot.

Default how about this one?

Well I think I may have found another one.

http://bham.craigslist.org/cto/1656424758.html

Sorry if link doesn't work typing from phone. Its a 92 red with a 6inch Rusty's lift.

Description:

I am trying to get rid of a project i no longer want. I have had this jeep for about two years now. It was runnin good til the motor slung a rod. Well after a new motor and a piece of crap mechanic it still doesn't run. But it has a completely rebuilt motor and everything mechanically is sound. It has it's dents and dings but everything i know of on this jeep works. It has a 6in rusty's offroad lift with all spicer joints and was told it has chromoly axles. also Has custom bumpers with 2in recievers front and rear. I also have a set of 32x11.50 bfgs i'll throw in .Am willing to trade just want something different.

I asked him all the same question about transfer case, tranny, axles, and what was wrong with the engine. He replied with this D30 front,D44 rear he believes, automatic trans and he thinks its either a fuel problem or electrical problem. Engine had been ran once since put back together.

Any insight is appreciated

i think you are the same way i was when i was looking for a jeep. I wanted one that was already partially modified so that i could go hit the trails right away without having to do much work. But after going to look at a few of these i realized that you can't always trust other peoples work. I think its better to buy a jeep that basically stock and do it yourself to you know it has been done right and won't fall apart on the highway or in the middle of nowhere.

that being said, i bought my jeep with the lift on it already and had to redo half of it because someone else was lazy.

i don't know how mechanically inclined you are but in my case, nomatter how many things i look for when checking out a jeep there is always something i miss, in my case it was the the shocks that were welded on and the rest of the suspension was awry.

good luck.

x2. Ive never felt comfortable buying someone elses project. You could probably talk someone down below 1000 on a stocker. Then research, and do what you think is best for the jeep and the type of off-roading you'll be doing.

Default new info on the 92

The guy selling the 92 XJ with non running engine called me earlier this morning. He told me that when the mechanic installed overhauled engine that he didn't match the correct flywheel up to the rebuild and that is causing the crankshaft positioning sensor to not allow the engine to turn over. He said that it wants to crank but doesn't. Told me he got a TJ and the XJ was put on the back burner because he wanted something lengthwise smaller. Does any of that sound for real to you guys?

if he overhauled the engine why would he have changed the flywheel? BS... dont buy any of these.... take your time... the one with the 2000 motor... doubt he did it right.... plus the 2000 motor is prone to the head cracking... research 0331 head... 99-01... to install a 2000 motor he would have either had to swap the entire wire hardness in the jeep OR used the renix head on the 2000 block... which that would be fine but doesnt make it a HO... buy a 91-98... with around 150k at the most.... there out there... use searchtempest.com and any Dana 35 becomes a dana 44 when its time to sell to someone who doesnt know any better... research what they look like also... only found on 87-89 cherokees but there not HO... so it would have had to been swapped in...
