Default Adding keyless entry to base XJ

I have a 1996 Jeep Cherokee SE which is the base Jeep Cherokee, with no keyless entry but it does have power windows and power locks. I would like to add keyless entry to my Jeep. I’m pretty sure about everything that I need, but what do I plug the sensor wiring harness into? I don’t know what connection I need to find and plug the sensor into so it will work. Thanks for any help! By the way, my Jeep doesn’t have the IR sensor in the roof so I’ll need to add that too.

that link should link to my "guide to show how I fitted a $25 aftermarket system, still works well a few years later, also work from a much greater distance

does your "SE" have the factory harness in the roof for the IR system ?..that will make it way easier...( they seem to have the same harness with unused plugs on different versions)

The factory system had very poor range since it used infrared instead of radio. You'll be much happier with an aftermarket setup as awg suggested. Cheap remote-only, alarm, or even remote start if you want to get fancy.

The factory setup is weak. Mine is a 97. The service manual says 23ft, but ive had to be within 15ft or so most of the time for it to work. That was with a new battery and pointing the fob directly at the vehicle. Once or twice i had to be standing next to it. So not only poor range, but spotty.
