Adding keyless entry to base model '97 XJ?
Just picked up a base model 2DR '97 post facelift. Crank windows and manual locks. is it a good amount of work to add keyless entry to this rig? Thanks!

the keyless remote is 4 wires, pretty simple. adding the actuators is a big mechanical job. then wiring them from scratch, another job. you still have no buttons on doors huh?
i just added rke to my 00 that has electric locks/windows. not too bad but wires are there .
you can get locks at junkyards, apx $25 each.

Yeah, no buttons on doors, just mirror motor controls. I don't have any problems wiring anything in, especially now as the headliner is out of the rig. My biggest caveat is I'd like the FOB's to have the factory look if possible.

Yeaaahh.. Gonna need the lock motors and associated linkages to make this project work. Might as well get window regulators too. Check the doors to make sure the factory wiring/plugs/connectors are available first.
This may be a wild goose-chase unless you have a complete donor vehicle available for cheap.. Just swap the doors. lol.

Thanks for the info, sounds like aftermarket is the easiest way to go. Is there a good wiring diagram anywhere online for running a new keyless entry system into an XJ?
