Default Acting up Xj

Hey guys and gals, I got a 1999 Cherokee and it has been stalling while running it keeps giving me a 705 and 1899 code, so before I replace the nss how do I tell the tranny on it, it as gears for 1-2 and 3 the drive/ over drive. So which one would it be I wanna get the right sensor rock auto had a 16 dollar one for a 3 speed and 180 for a 4 speed. Sorry if this seems dumb but I'm new to jeeps, got my first a week ago and I wanna make sure I don't get stuck on the mountain.

Thanks again

You should pull the NSS and clean it first. Been discussed many times.

I'm with Serious. Save yourself some $ and learn something about your rig.

Here is a good link on how to clean it:

http://bc4x4.com/tech/2010/jeep-neut...ty-switch-nss/

I would recommend applying PB Blaster at least a week prior to removal and apply once a day to allow it to soak in and start working.

Take care during the step where you have to "bend" the tabs/ears slightly so as not to break them off and during re-installation be sure and hold the shift-shaft into the trans when putting the NSS back on the shaft. It requires you to reach around to the opposite side of the trans while putting the NSS back on, but it's easy.

Let us know how it works out.

Edit: You may want to edit your XJ year & model into your personal info so it shows. Makes it easier for people to help you in the future and you don't have to type it every time.
