Default AC not working

Hey since I bought my XJ my AC never worked, the guy before me said it was "tempermental". But I remember reading on some recall list online that 1999 cherokees had a problem with the AC, and replacing some little valve thing would fix it. I cant remember where I saw this info or what this part is called, but i was wondering if any of you have heard of this - and if so, please tell me the part i need to get to fix it. Winter isnt going to last forever!

Sorry to bring up an old post, but did you ever get this figured out? Mine is tempermental too and it's a 1999.

Temperamental? Just curious what you mean by this. Not working at all, or only works sometimes?

I know some of these vehicles have compressor clutch issues so the a/c will work sometimes, and some have evap core leaks that leak all the freon out of the system and they don't work at all.

Mine will blow ice cold for a while, and then start blowing hot. Ill turn it off for a while and start the process over again.

The evaporator is freezing. Turning it off allows the evaporator to thaw out. Do you run it on max (recirculate) a lot? I've heard of many vehicles doing that from it being run on recirc. all the time.

I think that is exactly what I've been doing. I didn't realize that was max. Thanks for the help. It's been working great so far.

I would like to know what the exact recall was to see if it is my problem. I have to refill freon about every two months.
