If you can, disconnect both ends of the wire, make up a new wire with appropriate terminals, install that
That should be fairly easy ?...and will prove in/out the wire as an issue
The compressor needs a lot of current to "start", maybe as much as 20+ amps
I have various homey wires in my engine bay and elsewhere... always label them
