AC compressor compatability
Hi
I'm about to swap out my AC compressor on a 1998 Cherokee ltd 4.0.
The local breakers have spares on the shelf one from a 1994 and another from a 2001 cherokee.
Does anyone know which one is compatible.
I've been told that i need to have the gas removed, but in the manual it states that mine is R-134a Refrigerant and says that it is non-ozone depleting!!! am i missing something?
Regards

In the US.. even with R-134a you are supposed to have a shop recover the gas. My local garage only charges about $20 to pull the system down.
Releasing it into the atmosphere is a federal crime.
But that being said I can walk into China*Mart and buy cans of it...

I'm in the HVAC trade so I deal with refrigerants day in and day out.
whowey is correct. The refrigerant must be properly recovered by a Licensed Mobile (Automotive) Tech.
While R134a has an OZone Depletion Potential rating of 0, it is classified as a greenhouse gas and must therefore be handled accordingly.
Hope that helps.

Yes it is beacause England also abides by the Montreal Protocals which is a multi-national agreement by industrialized nations to limit green house gas emmissions and ozone depleting gas emmissions.

Thank You Frank. I thought they were on the same page, environmentally, as we are but was not aware of the name of the document that was signed by most industrialized nations.

U.K.
Hi
In the U.K. we've got more laws and taxes than you could ever dream about, country sucks as a result. We need a military coup!!!
I've sorted it now by changing the bearing myself, very straight forward i'll post with a talk through soon.
As to greenhouse gasses, have you seen the amount of Chinese power stations!!!!!!
Apparently if the U.K. switches off all power and has no flights for a whole year, then the amount of carbon saved is the same amout the chinese produce in a single week.
Thanks for all the replies it is appreciated
