Default About front axle disconnect....

Is the function of the two wires (not hoses) that go to the front axle disconnect simply to turn the 4x4 light in the dash on and off or does it serve that and a higher function?
Thanks in advance.

Is you axel a vacumm disconnected style?

As far as I know the transfer case is what changed the lights on the dash.

Yes, vacuum style. It has two vac lines and a two wire plug that goes to one side of it. I doubt it plugs into the actual vac motor though.
The reason I ask is bc the wires have been ripped off and are hanging and I can see where they once were hooked up.

Have you already swapped out the axle? I ditched my vacuum system Dana 30 and zip tied the wires to the upper control arm. The "Part Time" light doesn't come on anymore either...

If you have the opportunity to swap the HPD30 out, I would. The system is very unreliable and a small amount of water will disable it completely. There are some other solutions though... This one comes to mind. However, at that price you could pick up a normal HPD30 at a junkyard.

If you find there there actually IS somewhere on the vac-disco to plug in wires, that would be a new one on me. Normally there is a vacuum port that opens when the fork actually moves over that shoots vacuum to a switch for the light. That's why there are three...at least mine has three, IIRC.

Sometimes the harness has extra plugs for things you don't have....

I have not swapped and do not plan to. You answered my question about the wires though. I bet if I touch them together my "part time" light will come on.
What I think (correct me if i'm wrong) is that when the front axle connect/disconnect is actuated there is a sensor that knows 4wd is engaged and turns the light on, hence the two wires, and illuminates the part time light.
