Default '99 XJ turn indicators not working : SOLUTION

1999 XJ Sport LH turn indicators not working, flashes rapidly, LH tail light out, RH side works OK:

replaced fuse #7 in the fuse panel located under the dash passenger side kickplate...still didn't work;

removed the LH front turn light assy...twisted the lamp sockets out of their mounts and examined the metal contacts in each socket...a little corroded so scraped 'em clean with a small flatblade & remounted bulbs...nope!

looked at the lamp socket..it is a two-piece unit with yet another connector on the back of the lamp socket...I used a small flat blade to release the retaining pin and opened the connector....there's yer sign: three badly coroded pins; again carefully scraped 'em clean, reassembled the connector and turned on the lights...bingo! One note: the socket is keyed so it will not go back together the wrong way.

First pic shows how lamp socket separates
Second pic shows corroded pins in connector

Working turn indicators!

I will try to post pics...

Nice. I'm having the same problem on the right side. It's annoying/embarrasing. Looking forward to the pictures.

Default My wife was right?

Last night coming home from work my right side turn signal randomly started working again. Maybe my wife is right, neglect is the way to go. Just keep driving and the problems will fix themselves.

By, "LH tail light out", do you mean the bulb is burned out??

Assuming that's the case, that would be why your left indicator flashes rapidly when applied... when it flashes rapidly, it's an indicator that you have a blown bulb... replace the bulb and you're good to go. And if you still have issues with inconsistent flash rates, buy an LED flasher. They give you an even flash rate regardless of what is or isn't connected to them.

I had replaced the bulb, so my statement means the bulb is good but the light does not illuminate...but repairing the oxidized connector on the LH parking lights also restored the tail light...sorry for the vague syntax...

Does it work when you apply the hazards? If not, you could have a broken wire. I don't know what else it could be...

Thank you for the kind reply , but I posted the solution to the problem in the first post...it was oxidation on the bulb connector of the front LH parking light, I used a wire brush to clean/remove the oxidation and the lights now work properly...including the tail light.....thanks again.
