99 xj chugs?
Alright, new to the jeep scene, two days ago i traded my truck for a 99 xj, stock everything( as far as i can tell ) common jeep problems, door dosent open from outside, gas gauge dosent work, that sort of thing well yesterday the thing started chugging, never died, just chugged, slowed down and that was about it, if i gave it more than 1/4 throttle it would chug bad, filled the tank, jeep ran fine.. Until today, took the kids trick or treating, jeep started doing it again, except today if i floored it, it would stop chugging? any suggestions would be helpful... Thanks
oh, jeep has the 4.0L

I looked in my '98 FSM. Fuel pressure should be 49+/-5 psi. The TPS is supplied with 5V. Output should range from 0.25V at idle to 4.8V at WOT.

alright, where exactly is the tps? i will check the voltage tomorrow morning, it sucks when your in a 25 mph zone and you can barely keep your jeep running without mashing the pedal every few seconds

The TPS is on the throttle body. If I had to guess, I'd suspect a fuel pressure problem first, but the TPS wouldn't surprise me, either. Maybe someone else will have a different idea.

yea ive got spark plugs, ill probably change those tonight, the jeep acted somewhat better this morning, i take my uncle to work and the way there(45 mins) it chugged every time i took off from a stop sign until it hit 2nd or 3rd gear, then when i got to his shop it stalled when he was getting out but fired right back up, on the way home it didnt chug once, it just seems wierd to me, but im gonna do a tune up and check the pressure and tps and go from there

Got ahold of a scanner today, threw a bad o2 sensor code, climbed underneath and seen the o2 sensor had all the wires broke off, could this be the problem?

It certainly could be. Which O2 sensor are we talking about?
Definitely get the tuneup done. New spark plugs (Champion RC12ECC or NGK ZFR5N) gapped to 0.035", wires, and premium distributor cap and rotor with brass contacts.

your check engine light should be on..
i doubt that is causing your problem.. I agree with a new cap and tune up etc.. do the tune up, start small and go from there..
maybe run fuel real low say a quarter tank and throw a bottle of injector cleaner in there as well...
air filter, clean ports etc

I don't even have that sensor connected and my jeep runs fine... disconnect the sensor completely at the end...
maybe the wire is hitting metal while you drive causing this??
if it is the cat, if its not welded, take it off and slam a pipe through it, put it back on and you're in business until you decide to get another..
I'd hit up the guy you traded and see if he's had this problem before, again it sounds like fuel restriction...
