Default 99 cherokee sport 4.0 Plastic tube on exhaust side?

Hello All,

I have a 99 cherokee sport 4.0L 4x4..
Well I was under the jeep yesterday fixing the transfer case linkage and I looked up and saw the plastic tube that runs up bye the exhaust, manifold ( Not sure what it is for).. It was up against my exhaust manifold and it melted..

Went to the JY today and could not find one... What is the plastic pipe/tube for?
I am thinking it's a vent or something for the fuel tank.. Can I just cut it right below the burnt part and cap down underneith?

Thanks ,

Ant...

Is this tube about 5/8" in diameter, or is it a smaller diameter tube?

If it's the larger tube it's for the Leak Detection Pump. If you don't have an LDP, it can be shortened but retain the cap on it. If its a smaller diameter tube you must retain it inrtact. It's for the EVAP system.

Can you take a pic of it?

Looks like the vent line for the LDP. Just replace it and put the little cap back on the end. It needs to be vented to the air.
