Just picked up a 98 xj limited with the full time 4x4 155k miles. Can someone give me a quick list of maintenance to do to keep it running smoothly. ie seafoam engine, ect.

keep a maintenance record book. I would start by changing all the fluids unless there is a proof of when last serviced. Then I would do a tune up(plugs, wires dist cap and rotor.)

I was thinking of waiting to change the fluids (oil, tranny, and diffs) until I can have a mechanic inspect them on monday. What are your thoughts on this?

In my opinion, unless there's proof of it being changed recently, I'd change all the fluid's. Better safe then sorry. There are way too many people out there that either:
1. Don't ever maintenance a vehicle (Fluid change, tune-up, etc.)
2. Or use the cheapest possible products they can find (Fram filters, knock off sensors, etc.)
For me to even remotely trust what the previous owner and what they've done in the way of maintenance.

Just change the fluids and be done with it. Who know if the previous owner run the fluids down and just added when they sold it. Change them all. Any good mechanic would recommended doing it as well.

Just purchased my 1st XJ last week. The first thing I did was to follow the advice provided on this forum. I changed ALL fluids, flushed the coolant system, changed plugs and wires, and dropped Seafoam into a full tank. Don't think about it, just do it. It's worth it for the piece of mind and my new Jeep runs a whole lot smoother. Oh yeah, and I also joined the forum.

I did the same thing but put a third of sea foam in tank, third in oil, third in intake. Just replaced my NSS due to a no start issue, didn't work. Now I'm gonna try the CPS. Also learned my A/C has a large leak after a failed recharge attempt. Gonna need a new track bar or tie rod ends due to a popping noise that seller said was "normal." Replaced front windshield due to a leak, replaced carpet (poorly), and replaced front seats. Who knows what tomorrow will bring.

Should have been inspected prior to purchase.
