Default 98 XJ Grill/Headlight mount falling off

Hey guys. I'm a new Cherokee owner, and I absolutely love my XJ to death so far. I bought it a few weeks ago from a friend with 140xxx miles, and it's running strong so far!

I just have the small problem of the headlight mount/grill part on the 98 XJ falling of. It hasn't fallen off yet, but that's because duct tape is holding up one side. I can wiggle it freely with my hand. It's the plastic part on the body with the grill and headlights. I can see that the screws that mount it to the body are there, but the plastic parts that the screws go into are broken so that the screws do nothing. I'm wondering the best way to fix this possibly without buying another plastic part, and if I have to buy another, the best way to go about finding one?

Warning: Large images ahead.

That part you're talking about is called a header panel. I just bought a brand new one for $58 online to fix up a wrecked 2000 xj. If you don't want to spend that much, you still have a couple options. You could take your header panel off and mix you up a big glob of bondo or epoxy resin to try and re attach those broken pieces. Or, get some machine screws long enough to run all the way through the front (but then you'll have screw heads sticking out the front)

Or, maybe you can find what you need at a junkyard for cheap.

Yeah. I didn't think about JY. After they wanted $61 for a cracked header panel, I pretty much gave up on ever going back. Thank God for the google net.

You found a new one for less than the junkyard? Thats odd.

Thanks for the replies. I'm probably just going to gorilla glue it for now, and if anything else happens I'll end up going to a junkyard or buy another panel. Thanks guys!
