REGARDLESS
I don't care where you live. It's a violation to talk about deletion of emissions equipment on this forum.
You "may have run fine" for a year...but now the damage is done.
If you want help here, replace what was deleted, see how it runs, then report back. Otherwise, we can't (won't) help you.

Nice hack job modifying a factory engineered engine management system. Now that you've outsmarted the engineers to make your XJ into a tuner, you will need to find some other pack of geniuses to take you all the way to your vision of xj performance.
More rpm and no speed limit thats it
It not that big deal

All Right...... enough of this. You know why your xj runs like ****? First you got rid of a very important part of the efi system, next you have been over reving the **** out of a 4.0.... the cam is probably Flat, valve springs are dead, and rings are toast. You beat the **** out of a vehicle made to go less that 100mph and rev no higher than 5500. That's why your **** runs like Crap. Sell it and buy a sports car or something.
also you said there is no fuel filter on it. perhaps the injectors are clogged? time to get your hands dirty and look for simple solutions first. I highly doubt the motor is trashed just from the extended rpm. high rpm won't wipe cam lobes assuming proper oiling and you'd know if the rings were bad. valvespring is a possibility, but that would most likely sing its own song, too. have you seen any valve float?

There is no roadmap to helping someone who has messed with the systems like the OP has. You could literally throw out a hundred different causes for his described issues and not one of them is worth a damn because you aren't dealing with a baseline known platform. OP rigged up his ride and thrashed it like DOHC Honda. And now there is supposed to be advice on how to fix it? Nope. Not gonna get there from here.
