98 Jeep XJ not starting
Hello everyone!
So I'm just going to dive right into my issue. My jeep was running perfectly fine before this. I have the 4.0l with the 4 speed auto transmission, 4x4.
I drove to a gas station to pump gas, and shut the car off. I pumpe gas where I usually do and when I went to start it up it had a slow start, but it cranked and as soon as I let the key go it idled back down to 0 and it died. Thought it was pretty unusual, so I attempted to crank it back up and it started again, this time I have it gas and it stayed on, but as soon as I let off the gas, it idles back down to 0 and dies again. Next time I went to start it it did not crank and all of my lights shut off. I thought I needed a jump so got a person to jump me off. I connected the cables and put the key in the ignition and no lights came on. I turned to the on position and same thing, and it did not even turn over. So I thanked him and he went on his way waited a couple minutes, and put the key in the ignition again and all of the lights came on and I tried to start it and it started up and stayed on. Only when giving it gas. Then when I let it idle, it died again. Every now and again when I put the key in the ignition I will get the beeping sound. But no lights and when I go to turn it on. It immediately shuts off( as in no power whatsoever). I'm waiting for a friend to come take me home to get my tools, just thought ide be proactive and see if anyone has had a similar issue. My mechanic thinks it could be the ignition switch. Does this sound correct? Thanks to any input you guys can provide.

Can get the battery 'load tested' for free at most auto stores. Battery cables can usually be inspected for corrosion to confirm or rule it out.
Finally fixed the Jeep. I replaced the negative battery cable entirely, and the terminal for the positive side and cut fresh wire for it. Seemed to have fixed the issue, hopefully permanently.
