Default flex plate cover importance?

got under this jeep last night and noticed whoever installed the "new" tranny didn't put the cover back on. im sure I can round one up somewhere but how important is it to run one? seems like itll keep a lot out with it on but on the other hand seems like it would keep a lot of mud and junk behind it if it were on.

i would put one on as it would keep any stones large enough to cause damage out of there.
if it's a street jeep that doesn't see trails, then sure, leave it off.

as for mud/water, there is a raised section bottom center to drain water.

When I see stuff like that it scares me and makes me wonder what else they "forgot".

Yep.

I can't see any upside to leaving it off. It's there for good reasons.
