i have a 98 XJ that doesnt have cruise control. I also have a bunch of spare parts like a 98 Steering wheel with the cruise control buttons on it and the servo motor for the cruise control. If i simply put the new wheel on and install the cruise motor is all the wiring going to be there to make it work?

Bumpity, I just bought a 99 it was a great deal, but one of the major things i wanted was the overhead display and cruise control. I saw other threads on how to do the console,but nothing on the steering wheel cruise control? I would like to know too. Im going to the junkyard this weekend to rip a few apart to find out, Ill post back here again if I find out other wise. Happy St.Patricks Day btw,

and here is one from here, more of a trouble shooting guide I guess - http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f11/w...-97-xj-906542/.

installing cruise control on a '97+ is simple.
BUT.
switches are specific to '97-98, and '99 to '01.
so, if you have a '98, you can use the '97-'98 switches, but NOT the '99-01 switches.
parts that you need to do the install;
proper year (or "era" so to speak) switches and switch to clock spring harness
a '97-'01 clock spring
a '97-'01 servo with vacuum hose
and if you have a '97 to mid '98, you will need the late '98 to 2001 air bag in order to add cruise control.
the wires are existing from the steering column to the engine computer, and from the computer to the servo.
the reason the switches are "era" specific is that the switches work off of different voltages...there are only 2 wires going to 4 switches. the engine computers changed between '98 and '99 and accept different voltage inputs.
I'll see if I can dig up the part numbers on the switches for you so that you can make sure you have the proper ones for your install.
