Default 98 Cherokee Sport A/C problem

I bought my jeep this winter and the guy I bought it from said the a/c was cold but had to be recharged every year. So, I knew that it had a leak. I took it to the shop and had it recharged. Within 2 weeks it was blowing hot air again. The shop checked it for leaks and said the MAIN LINE was leaking and they gave me a price. I thought it was a bit high so I got on line looking for a MAIN LINE. I can not find a MAIN LINE. I have found 2 different lines and am now confused. Is this a part that can be found and is it fairly easy to get to? Can anyone offer a little clarity? Thanks, Debbie

Theres two main lines. Low pressure and high pressure coming from the compressor. Did he happen to point out which one it was and you can describe or take a pic of?

We should then be able to advise which you need.

Just did a/c replacement on our '98. The hose assembly/manifold is available at Autozone, $110. The accumulator/dryer should also be replaced as it is a filter and the old one is probably crudded up. Flush the evaporator and condenser with a/c flush and compressed air before installing new stuff. Let a shop with the right equipment and knowledge charge it up. A/C is like new, 34F at center vents.

I think I might end up having to do this myself soon... My AC blows cold as anything up until it gets a little bit warm outside... then it still blows cool... just not cold... It's ok most of the time as I just hit the windows down and enjoy it that way... I think I will be taking it by a shop this week to get it checked out to see if there is a leak... if not then I will just recharge it and see how long that lasts...

I got an AC discharge line just like the one you linked to on jeepair.com. Did you get it hooked up okay? I can't figure out how the dryer connector is supposed to sit; the hard line is routed right through the dryer.

I ordered the part and the line going to the dryer is shorter than the one I took off, so when I tried to line up the new one it put a horrible kink in the line.....I am researching a different year hose assembly. I also can not get the hard line separated from the front condenser, any suggestions....I may just give up and have it done it has been over 90 degrees for a week and I am tried of not having air!

Hi All. I have too much high pressure; a blockage but a good pump. I am going to change the high pressure line with the orrifice integral first and see if that's the issue (no valve on 98's) so a blockage is either this or the evaperator. I will heed your advice anc change the accumulator dryer as it's fairly inexpensive anyway. This is a simple system as A/C's go. I bought guages at Harbour Freight for $50, a bargain and indespensible for diagnosing faults. Before I put guages on the local dealer told me the pump needed replacing - err?
