Default A/C Orifice Tube

I have a 2000 XJ - online it shows that I can buy the orifice tube for the A/C as either the tube itself or as a complete liquid line containing the tube. Other threads indicate the whole liquid line needs to be changed - is there a way to buy just the tube and change it over inside the line?
thanks

A lot of times the orifice tube is stuck and won't come out. The little portion that you have to hook, in order to pull it out, is plastic and breaks off more often than not. This is why they came up with the orifice tube repair kit.

If it comes out in one piece, you're golden... slap another tube in it. If not, then you'll need to install an orifice tube repair kit.

If there's a lot of metal shavings and junk in it, or you had a compressor blow up, you'll probably also want to install a liquid line filter to keep the tube from plugging up again. NAPA carries those as well as other places I'm sure.

'98 orifice tube is "built-in" inside the liquid line.....'00 is probably the same. Less connections to leak I guess.

I just did mine. I got the liquid line. I'm not sure the orifice tube comes out, and the line wasn't that much more expensive...so why risk it.

You need the tool...look at autozone...http://www.autozone.com/autozone/acc...er=472423_0_0_

But the complete, 2229-07025995 item is only $28.35 from partsgeek the same price as the tool about.
