I don't text on my flip phone because it only has 12 keys. I spend too much time fixing mistakes!

HOLY **** *****!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HAVE YOU EVER HEARD OF PUNCTUATION?!?!?!?!?!?!!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
If you want decent help from people and expect them to decipher what you are trying to say and explain, along with being able to speak the English language sufficiently with a decent vocabulary, it would be really helpful to use it. I'm not saying you are a dummy, but since we have to READ what you are saying rather than LISTEN to you speak it in person, it would really help to have clear and concise verbiage. We don't want to read and have to try and interpret what you are trying to say because its the longest run-on sentence ever. It should be clear the first time we read it.
Stepping down from my soapbox now......

I always wondered what it would be like, if even possible, to have an XJ with no computerized electronics in her.
I am talking maybe a '63 Buick V6 like I had in my '46 CJ2A (SBC would be so cool to), old school 2 lever transfer case, locking hubs on the front, etc.
Emissions testing in my state stops after 25 years.
I could get away with it then. LOL.

I'd be willing to bet the hole in that piston was made by detonation, as in "ping." A very lean mixture will do that quickly. Any straight 6 head will crack in the center if run hot enough, long enough. I'd say that motor was ridden hard long before you got it and not maintained very well. You could probably use the piston from the 2000 as long as the dish is the same and it fits diameter wise, but I'd steer away from that 0331 head. It will fit your block, but not your exhaust manifold without an adapter. You could use it temporarily but keep in mind it's a time bomb. Also, how are the bearings in your motor since it's been running with water in the oil?
Personally, I like your idea of a sbc 350 with carb and a THM 350 trans if you can get it registered in TX that way. The THM 350 is pretty near bullet proof. The 700R4 is too complicated with the O/D and lockup. Guys have already put LS1s in XJs.

Okay, but keep in mind the 2000 has 2 cast iron manifolds with small cats on them and a y-pipe below them. You should be able to work something out.
