98 cherokee dies at 3000rpms roug idle HELP
I am new to this so forgive if there is another thread about this same issue, I have a 1998 jeep cherokee sport 4.0 with 270k miles, When driving aprx 50mph and give it some throttle it dies out. If I slowly give it more throttle it will go to 3000rpms and bounce like as if it were hitting rev limiter. if I let if and put it to the floor it will shift down and go fine. Only happens in drive and mostly uphill. Since this has been happening it also will idle very rough and the motor knocks, not constant just random throughout throttle. I know I have a bad 02 sensor on the manifold but I don't really have the money to buy parts it doesn't *need to drive. Thanks for any help and sorry bout the long post. Also I believe I was told it needed a nss, dont have anyway to get my hands on a code reader. Posted earlier in the wrong forum, I apologize.
Is the Check Engine light on? If so, we need to know the exact code(s) to help you.
It could be a lot of different things. If it were me, and if no codes were present, I'd probably start with a fuel pressure test.
