Fuel problem? Pressure regulator code
Hi guys!
I have just purchased a 98 XJ classic. It has the 4.0 engine. The check engine light is on, and the code reader only showed one code, that indicated the fuel pressure regulator has a problem. I am trying to borrow a code reader to get the exact code number of what the problem is, as I did not write it down.
Has anyone else had this problem before? Was it really the fuel pressure regulator? From what I have read, it sounds like the regulator is located inside the gas tank alongside the fuel pump. Does that sound correct?
thanks in advance from a new first time Jeep owner!

A different code reader configured for the XJ Cherokee should be used.

If I could get the exact code # would that help? The engine seems to run fine. However I am about to take the Jeep through state inspection and am not sure if the check engine light will make it fail.

I replaced the gas cap and had no CEL all the way to the inspection station...almost. half a mile before I got there if came back on. I will try to get the code when it comes back from inspection. They wanted $80 just to read the code so I told them no thanks.
