Default 98 4.0 ticking

Okay so for the past month or so(ever since I got a decent muffler) I've noticed a slight ticking sound during light acceleration. That being said I do have a cracked manifold. I'm just curious if it could be anything else that is only noticeable during acceleration? It runs strong, oil pressure at 207-209 is at 15 during idle and 40ish when I rev it or am driving. I reckon I get around 19mpg give or take

Well, the cracked manifold is probably going to be your culprit. That being said, almost every XJ motor (4.0) that I have ever heard "ticks." They are noisy engines.

Ticking, or sounds in general are only second to 'smells' THE WORST TO TRY AND DIAGNOSE OVER THE INTERNET without any additional info...
If you really want us to help you, you will have to narrow things down...like WHERE does the ticking appear to come from, is it related to RPM;s, does it become less or worse when things heat up.....so give us more info after you had a good listen/look/feel of things...

You've most likely answered your own question.

Sounds like a bomb stashed under the chassis. Ticktickticktickticktick

Replace the manifold and if the noise continues try finding out WHERE the noise is coming from...

Well I have a slight ticking from my dist, just changed cap and rotor and the other sound is coming from the manifold. I guess I'll pull the cap of and see it it's contacting anywhere and check the shaft, might be worn out.
I'm going to weld my manifold up but are they cast??

Yes it's cast iron. Welds tend to not last.

If it is a pipe manifold, then it is non cast and can be welded. But, it is very thin material and will most likely crack again.
