I did not know that!!! I have only owned 87, 90, and 91 XJ's. His problem sounded kind of like what my 90 XJ did and it ended up being that resistor.

So I drove it about 20 miles it started making noises coming from the alternator. Drove about 2 more miles it shut off and the alternator was seized. Not sure if that's why it died or not but I pulled the belt off and it still wasn't starting. So I found out it wasn't getting spark its getting fuel though. So I went ahead and replaced the cps again tht wasn't the problem. Replaced te coil that wasn't the problem either and that's all I've done so far. So I'm not sure what's wrong. Does anyone know anything that could be the problem? Another sensor or something?
Cam sensor inside dist. Maybe

Have you checked for spark from the coil or just the plug wires?

Yea I pulled the one wire off the distributor that connects to the coil and no spark and then i pulled one that connects to the spark plug and still no spark. It's giving me a code saying no voltage from ASD

Below is an image of your '97 PDC.

Mini fuse F18 is the ASD power fuse. Fuse F20 is the fuse that powers the ignition coil and the fuel injectors. Fuse F11 in the Junction Block (kicker panel) is the power for the ASD relay control coil (and other relay control coils).

Hope this helps.

You have:

P1389-NO ASD RELAY OUTPUT VOLTAGE AT PCM

Set Condition: No voltage sensed at the PCM when the ASD relay is energized.

Possible Causes:
POSSIBLE CAUSES
WIRING HARNESS INTERMITTENT PROBLEM [corroded connector pins, bent or broken connector pins, chaffed/broken wires - visually inspect/clean]

ASD RELAY OUTPUT CIRCUIT OPEN [wiring between ASD Relay and the PCM]

FUSED B+ CIRCUIT OPEN [PDC F18 or F20 Open, possibly F21 open]

ASD RELAY

PCM

Here's a diagram of the '97 ASD circuit:

Seems like some good information I checked all the fuses they are good so it's probably a wiring problem maybe because the previous guy did a little chopping In the harness before
