Default Changing thermostat

Had a 195 and extremely low oil pressure at idle and today I changed to the optional 180 and my check gauges light didn't come on at hot idle like it did with the old stat. The engine still reached the typical 200 dagee mark

My question is if I switch to the other option thermostat which is a 160 I believe will I get any problems with my jeep?

It may run poorer because normal operating temp is about 200

You need to forget about thermostat changes for now and figure out the true "root cause" of your extremely low oil pressure.

Can we assume by your name that you have a 2000? Always post year/engine when starting a thread. if it's a 2000, are you using coolant? If so, you may have a cracked 0331 cylinder head. If they crack, coolant mixes with oil and can damage the bearings inside of the engine in pretty short order and that can result in low oil pressure. Not saying that is your problem, but it is common enough for the 00-01 that I generally mention it.

Like tj, I presume a '00 XJ and yes u cold have another CEL/code in cold weather using a 160 stat. Not reaching 160 degrees coolant temp in X time will set a CEL (OBD-II). Using the heater in cold weather with a 160 stat could be the trigger.

It did have a cracked head and I swapped it out. I am planning on getting rod/main bearings done when I can gather up the money for it but I was thinking this would be a band aid until than. The folder the engine the higher my oil pressure is so I put in a 180 and the engine still reaches normal temp but the pressure is a little higher so I was thinking going to 160 to se if I can boost the pressure a little more
