96xj wont idle

96xj wont idle
i have a 96 xj 2wd i drove to work today no problem went to go out for lunch and car was dead. got out and saw positive realy dirty on the batt. so i took it off and cleaned it car had power and turns over but wont start. smells like gas! If i give it throttle it will start but the minute i let go it dies! ideas??

Moved to OEM Tech.
It could be a few things. I would first check for PROPER fuel pressure and GOOD spark.
Having to constantly give it gas is a decent clue, but still could be a couple things.

Holding the pedal to the floor shuts off the injector pulse. They won't fire.
Sounds flooded.
