from wikipedia: ..."The Renix system has more inputs than the later Mopar system and in some ways is more complex"...

link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Renix

PS: everybody should read this it is very interesting.
Considering some systems I've seen, RENIX isn't so bad. Recall that the system was spec'd by Renault, but the final design and construction were left to Bendix/King (the avionics people,) which is why RENIX might have "extra" inputs - although the only "real" extra input is the knock sensor - which is also on most GM and some Ford systems as well, and is a useful signal.

Is the underlined text in your post scriptum referring to the Wiki link? Or is it a link that you missed? Just checking - I think I'd printed the RENIX Wiki article a while ago, and I've tracked down the last patent holder of the system (gotta try to get them talking to me again...)

Bendix made the Renix system with Renault money and facilities in Tolouse.
Actually there is a lot of mystery/secrets on the real staff of people that developed this system, and there are rumors about the chkee unibody that was designed by Renault designers.

I think it is an awesome system, i like the fact of it having been conceived to keep the engine running even with 50% of the sensors unplugged, throwing stored values in open loop without giving a stupid CEL and codes.
An accelerometer in the knock sensor back in 1987... , and you are forgetting the "extra output" of the EGR valve, that was first discontinued in the '90s and now we see them everywhere on the modern diesels to reduce combustion temp. and NOx emissions.
Yes the underlined text is referred to the wiki link.
Please share your info with me if you contact the patent holder, i've got some stuff in french (official Renault documents) that i am currently translating, i'll might write it down and put it on the server.

As far as diesel's go, chamber temps and higher output can be achieved by propane injection, similar to water injection in forced induction gas engines (also higher compression NA ones as well.)

Much better than water injection, i am wanting to do that on my SD33 diesel Scout.
This company: http://www.icomitalia.it/lang1/index.html
produces the only liqiud injected common rail propane system, it's one of the coolest things i have ever seen, it is incredibly simple and effective.
They are currently developing the diesel kit and i can't wait to have one.
