Someone kicked it and one of the tabs/hooks broke off. Maybe there are better attachments now, but on my 96 the plastic tabs were a little fragile. I should have kept it and screwed it on or something... but I stupidly chucked it.

 

i just lay my 20 oz. bottle down along the parking brake handle. i have never owned a car with cup holders, so the first thing i do is find a spot to stash the plastic bottle. my first car was a 69 charger, i would put the bottle between the seat and council, second car 85 bonneville, anyware on the bench next to me, third car 87 dodge d100 pickup, usually ended up on the floor on the passenger side, fourth, 1994 saturn, parking brake, fifth, 48 buick, passenger seat, jeep, parking brake. creativity is the key!

Here is/was the simple yet stock-looking fix for the Style B problem.

Two black flat-head trim screws drilled and countersunk for a flush mounting.

Hold cupholder where it should mount.
Mark the two holes (evenly spaced from the edge and from each end)
Drill thru cupholder.
Replace cupholder and mark thru with fine-tip marker.
Drill smaller holes (as small as you can) in console.
Screw down.

I added an extra screw on the tab underneath, just to tie it all together.



I have done this for, not only my TWO XJ's but a handful of friends who have this style.

Holds my 20oz coffee mug with no problem.
Gets used at least 2x a day

Good idea - so simple, yet so effective. Why didn't I think of this? I'm guessing there's nothing behind the trim that can be damaged by the screws, right? Even tho I haven't had problems with mine, doesn't mean I won't. I'm gonna do this ... .

 

Nothing behind. As long as you don't use mile-long screws.
1"- 1.25" should be more than sufficient.

 

mine holds a 2 liter bottle of soda. actually it will hold two.

 

I bought one of those awhile ago and didnt like it. All too often would it get in the way of setting and releasing the E-brake. I ended up tightening the ebrake so that it was taunt at about the mid position, but found that my rear brakes were wearing quicker.

Additionally the cup holders can really only hold a can of coke, or a medium soda from a fast food restaurant.

Style b is nice but it limits your passenger leg room alot.
