In my 86 Laredo, there are built in cup holders in the panels for the back seat.

I've owned my XJ for almost 20 years, and it came with a cup holder that fits into slots on passenger side of console. I don't think I've ever used it, but I always kept it and it 's still hanging around in the inside of my jeep somewhere. I didn't know there was a different type available that actually screws into console. I thought at the time it was a pretty cheesy design but I got over it . A Cherokee comes with attitude adjustment built in.

Anyone actually move the mirror switch to the ebrake style cupholder? Debating on cutting out that hole.....and wondering if it's not worth the hassle, as someone mentioned the power mirror switches wiring might be too short to transfer it...??? Also the console lid doesn't shut with the cupbholder screwed into place?

I did move the switches forward! It was tight, but as long as the hole is properly cut what you can do is pull it out all the way, unplug it ( obviously ) push the new one into the cup holder, and before you mount the cup holder turn it and wiggle the connector back in from behind. Worked on my '92 perfectly, it was VERY close though.

Your console lid should close. Mine did. Maybe the type screws you used? But I've been thru both types of cup holders in my XJ & I prefer the one on the passenger side. I like my e-brake.
